Safety policy · Pre-launch draft
Inhalation & Combustion Disclaimer
A firm no-sale boundary for initial launch and the separate evidence, age, legal, processor, and safety review required for any future inhalation product.
1. No inhalation commerce at initial launch
Inhalation catalog and checkout require separate feature gates and must remain off without documented legal and payment-processor approval.
Lot & Leaf does not authorize initial checkout for products represented for smoking, combustion, vaporization, or inhalation. Herbarium or Journal discussion of historical smoking use is educational and is not an offer, recommendation, direction, or safety endorsement.
2. Herbal smoke is not harmless
Burning plant material produces smoke, particles, gases, and heat-related byproducts. “Herbal,” “tobacco-free,” “nicotine-free,” and “natural” do not mean risk-free. People with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions and pregnant or nursing people should not treat online smoking lists as safety guidance.
3. Evidence does not transfer across routes
Research on tea, food, oral extract, essential oil, or isolated constituents does not establish the safety, effect, or dose of smoke. Heating and combustion change exposure, and a traditional description does not establish modern product safety.
4. Conditions before any future proposal
Any future inhalation proposal requires product-specific federal, state, and local classification; ingredient review; toxicology and combustion review; warning and age requirements; child-resistant or other packaging review; carrier and insurance approval; payment-processor written approval; state shipping blocks; and counsel approval.
A future age floor may be 21 or higher where law or policy requires. Age language alone is not a substitute for an approved verification process.
5. Reference-only botanicals
Wild lettuce, lobelia, lungwort, uva ursi, white willow, eucalyptus, and other higher-concern records may remain educational or reference-only. Inclusion in the Herbarium does not create a presumption that the plant will ever be sold for any route.
